Backdrop Progress

After two Monday nights and two Tuesday work sessions things are taking shape on the western wall and island. See below for some info on the work done to date.

Western Wall

The hills were outlined with artist pastels as shown in the last update.

Northern End

The hill shapes are outlined with different colour pastels prior to painting.

The first earth primer coat.

The second earth coat.

The third earth coat.

The fourth earth coat.

The earth coats are bringing the backdrop to life.

BJ blending colours.

The first coat of distant trees have been painted on the northern bluff.

BJ progressing with the distant trees.

The distant trees are now progressing on the western wall.

Centre

BJ checking the progress of his work as he gets to the centre of western wall.

BJ has added the third coats to the centre western wall.

BJ adding third earth coat to western wall heading for stairs.

I wonder,  may be a bit more here ?

This blends in nice.

A nice dark colour brings out the distant range.

The dark green giving the distant range depth.

A bit more distance added to the foreground.

Looking good.

BJ doing a touch up.

The dark green works well for the distance range.

BJ having a break, while we admire the western wall coming to life.

BJ applying first colour trees to the western wall.

Trees growing with every stroke of the brush.

Southern End

The first earth primer coat above the freelance snow shed has joined  the southern & western wall.

BJ adding more earth colour to the southern wall, with the hills outlined.

BJ painting more earth colour past the freelance snow shed near stairs.

BJ applying the second earth colour past the snow shed.

BJ what colour next ?

More dark green for the distant ranges ?

Yes, the dark green works well for the distant ranges.

BJ growing trees with the first tree colour as he comes from the western wall heading south.

First tree colour on hills and range in distance above freelance snow shed.

First colour trees and hills on southern & western corner backdrop.

First colour trees, hills and ranges heading towards southern backdrop to the left.

Tree Painting

Island

We have been progressing with finishing the remaining backdrop.

Chris & I installing uprights

Bob assisting with trial fitting of MDF sheets

Robust discussions on have to finesse the fitting....

The "final" trial fit.

But there was a problem......

Much better after some trimming of one upright close to the bend.

Happy now..

Blocks for the end section

All glued and clamped at last

Time to get back on 'Terra Firma"

But...

I was not happy that the sections between the posts were a bit "wavy" during the diferent temperatures of the day so.....

Runner installed at top and bottom between uprights!

Barry lends a helping hand too...

Much better now - "happy camper"...

Well "that's all folks" for this update more later

Cheers Ros

  2. I love seeing these process photos and the team working. It looks like you have a lot of fun and make it a nice, social event when you get together.
The painting process photos are fantastic as are the more "workbench" photos of you working on bench work items and the like. I'm so glad you got this blog up and running.
    Cheers!
